This is the best one I've seen so far. I like it even better than Downton Abbey, my second favorite. It is wonderful to have this on Blu-ray for my collection.

On rainy or cold winter days, I love to pop some corn and sit back under a warm blanket to watch these. The acting is great. I truly believe the neurosis of the lead character played by Cumberbatch, but I think even more interesting is Dr.

Watson played by Freeman. The chemistry is the best I've seen for a while. I believe it when Dr. Watson feels like smacking Sherlock.

It is dramatic, funny, many layered, and just overall entertaining. It doesn't matter what season, I love them all.

You don't need to be a fan of Sherlock Holmes to love this modern interpretation of the classic sleuth. It's entertaining, witty, thought-provoking, exciting, and amusing.

Watson, respectively. These are two men who clearly love each other, but only one of them is capable of expressing that. Watching Sherlock's humanity dawn on him thanks to the influence of Watson is a joy to behold, and it is in season two where that becomes most apparent.

By contrast, we are also offered Moriarty, who has Sherlock's brilliance but is lacking any shred of humanity. I would recommend this series - in its entirety - to anyone, regardless of whether or not they enjoy a good whodunnit or not.

Sherlock comes of age. I gave the first season DVD of "Sherlock" only four stars, because of the weak third episode, which was actually filmed first.

As the documentary on Disk 2 says, this season takes on the three biggest Holmes stories, involving Irene Adler, the hound of the Baskervilles, and Sherlock's supposed end and the death of James Moriarity.

The first two episodes are brilliant, better than anything in the first season. The third episode, the Reichenbach Fall, is positively out of this world, over the top magnificent.

As I was watching it, it occurred to me how much easier it is to write about a character with superhuman, or seemingly superhuman characteristics, such as Jason Bourne, Gandalf the Grey, Jedi knights, and every comic book superhero you can name.

You can have them do virtually anything you want, in any given situation. If you need lots of different skills, you create teams like the Fantastic Four or the X-Men or the Avengers.

Their roles are one extended deux ex machina. The thing which turns these stories into comic books is that you then must create villains with superhuman powers to make it a fair fight.

It also helps if you throw in a secret vulnerability or two such as Kryptonite. This may also be why Gandalf is such a successful character.

And, in these three episodes, we get a huge helping of the four most freakishly superhuman characters in the Holmes corpus. Aside from Holmes, we get lots of Mycroft Holmes far more than in the stories , James Moriarty, the "consulting criminal" and Irene Adler, whose persona is built up quite a bit from her appearance in only one original story, "A Scandal in Bohemia".

Just as I was marvelling over my observation about superhuman characters, in episode 3, the writers turn it all around on Sherlock something which never happens in the stories and he is, as Lestrade's female sargeant describes him, freakish.

His success is in coming to correct conclusions from thin evidence is thought to be too good to be true, and he is indicted for perpetrating a crime he just solved.

Here I get into dangerous waters, risking giving too much away. I can only suggest that the richness and cleverness with which these stories are displayed on the screen is far more engaging than anything I, or Arthur Conan Doyle, for that matter, could have put on paper.

Possibly the greatest treat is the interaction between Holmes and Moriarty, which virtually never happens in the stories. One of the most marvelous things about Holmes, Mycroft, and Moriarty is that they defy all the usual trademarks ascribed to them by Doyle, they fit into the 21st century perfectly, with no trace of a mannerism saying "look how clever I am in transplanting these characters", and yet they are totally true to the soul of the characters created by Doyle.

Mycroft and Moriarity are both youngish and thin. Sherlock literally mocks several of the usual trademarks such as his deerstalker cap.

Best of all, Moriarty is depicted as quite literally bordering on a kind of brilliant insanity. The other two episodes are similarly brilliantly executed, with a few twists you won't find in Doyle's stories.

I am almost inclined to suggest you be sure to get Season 1 before getting Season 2, so the second does not spoil the experience of the first, with is first rate, but a bit messy in the end.

Being each season made by few episodes, the waiting for next season to come has always been hard! What I love about that is that probably is the best and most accurate adapation of Sherlock Holmes, although being set in modern times and updated to contemporary sensibility and way of life.

And yet it preserves the spirit of the novels and characters much more than other films I think about horrible Guy Ritchie's films, that are just modern on the surface, but they all focus on special effects without saying nothing about chracters, places, settings, and the world behind those detections.

It is a perfect series from any point of view, and the ability was to show how still great it can be even if they use smartphone and internet.

Indeed, te brilliant thing is that they perfectly adapt original elements to contemporary world: so Watson's diary become a blog, Sherlock's ambiguity is not just a matter of homosexual attraction to Watson but a more complex question about him not belonging to the common people and world which is a distinctive quality and also a damnation , and even the smartest direction ideas like mobile texts popping up on screen, or some montage and editing cuts are not just showing off but a way to make it appealing without betraying the true spirit of the books.

It has the merit to having launched great actors who became stars Benedict is truly great. The blu ray is incredibly good. Thank you for your feedback.

Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again. Die Fangemeinde kann sich freuen, dass Cumberbatch und Freeman erneut auf Verbrecherjagd gehen.

Translate review to English. Conan Doyle's great fictional detective is as appealing as ever in a clever and intelligent updating of the stories and themes.

Lively and visually stunning, with great performances even in minor roles, stunning cinematography and some great locations this is one of the BBC's greatest moments in decades - yes, for me even better than the return of Dr Who.

Devised and written by Dr Who's Steven Moffatt and the always amazing Mark Gatiss actor, author, director best known for The League of Gentlemen, I get something new out of every episode each time I watch them.

Supporting roles by Una Stubbs a delightfully dizzy Mrs Hudson , Mark Gatiss Mycroft at his most enigmatic and especially the mesmerizing Andrew Scott as a psychotic Moriarty help add up to the most invigorating and original retelling yet of the Holmes mysteries.

The music is also fantastic. I only finished watching these discs three days ago, but I'm missing them already! Like Season 1, this is a mini-series of three eighty-seven minute TV movies, based on stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle but reshaping them very freely.

The series continues to be an unalloyed pleasure. The writing is wonderfully ingenious in the way it contrives both to honour Conan Doyle's invention and to give us the pleasure of surprise by constructing enthralling new plots on Sir Arthur's robust foundations.

And the acting, as before, is a joy. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman must surely be at least as good a Holmes and Watson as any of their splendid predecessors; Moriarty is played superbly, Mycroft sublimely, Mrs Hudson delightfully - there are no weak links at all.

Sherlock's heartbreakingly endearing pathologist is, in her way, as perfect as a Mozart sonata. The extras comprise commentaries and an entertaining nineteen minute behind the scenes featurette.

The quality of the picture and sound are fine, if not quite the equal of the very best. But nothing should put you off buying this unmissable collection.

After watching the stunning cliffhanger that concludes the final episode, I'll be spending many a happy hour wondering how on earth Mr Moffat and Mr Gatiss are going to solve the problem that they've set themselves in launching Season !

I didn't really like the idea of bringing Sherlock Holmes into the present day, but once I saw one episode I was hooked.

I didn't get the DVD of series 1 for quite a while, but saw it at a bargain price and got it. I watched it though in two sittings and after watching the first two episodes I immediately went on Amazon to order series 2.

It didn't disappoint I knew it wouldn't, as I'd already seen it on TV. The plots and dialogue are clever but there is also a wonderful strand of humour running through each episode.

One of the most entertaining TV programmes I've ever seen and one I'll watch over and over again. I have always loved the Sherlock Holmes stories so was fascinated by this series.

As I don't watch TV it took a while for me to hear about this new programme so I ordered series 1 and 2 together. I really like the interaction between Holmes and Watson, love the fact that it is all set in this day and age yet with plenty of references and glimpses of the times it was written in.

Even my daughter and grand-daughter who weren't fans, have enjoyed watching a story with me, and that really surprised me!

It has humour running through each story, it's fascinating to watch Holmes gather his clues. You can get as annoyed and frustrated with Holmes as Watson does, but he still solves it all in the end.

Great for all to watch. This series maintains the superlative standard of series 1. I loved what the writers did with the tale of the remarkable Irene Adler, even though the switch from opera soprano to dominatrix might seem a bit much for some viewers.

And although the Baskerville episode wasn't quite up to the same standard, the closing scenes of their take on 'The Final problem' was moving in the extreme.

Cumberbatch and Freeman are perfectly cast, and play their roles brilliantly. Whicher', and 'Foyle's War' as the finest detective fiction ever seen on British telly.

Picks up from series one, and follows on to the eventual conclusion. Continuing the the updating and adapting, with great respect for Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle's original that if new to Sherlock Holmes then everything is shiny and fantastic.

If you are a fan of the original then there is so much respectful acknowledgement and nods that it becomes fun to see how this has been done.

Such a shame that those who adapt don't seem to have the same care. This is what British television should be, the chemistry between the lead actors is obvious, and there is a definite fan boy love from the creators of this show.

Moriarty is evil and completely twisted, he has a chilling, yet embracing quality that is missing from a lot of villainous characters today.

The cinematography is not as strong as Sherlock Season 1 but Season 2 is still very enjoyable and remains a fresh and intriguing take on Sherlock Holmes.

The picture quality is great but it's a shame there's no high definition audio, and that the commentaries and extras are rather limited.

For me, the first part, 'A Scandal in Belgravia' is the standout episode, with the best locations, cinematography, 'baddies' and script.

Nevertheless good entertainment and I'm thoroughly looking forward to Season 3. Sherlock really is great, episodes one and three are genuinely impressive, however the second was just boring.

I wholeheartedly recommemd it simply for episodes one and three. Episode one really makes you think and literally everyone I know who's seem it loves the interpretaton of Irene Addler and Episode 3 gives a real challenge for the mind and you really feel for Sherlock and Watson.

Cumberbatch and Freeman really are an excellent double act. In this updated take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's beloved mystery tales, the eccentric sleuth prowls the streets of modern London in search of clues.
